ACT 2022–2023 water and sewerage pricing

Published date

The Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission (the Commission) has set the 2022–23 water and sewerage prices for the ACT. From 1 July 2022, water and sewerage prices will be adjusted to account for the Consumer Price Index (CPI), government charges, and market factors.

For a typical household using 200 kilolitres of water per year, the 2022–23 prices will result in a 2.2% decrease to their combined water and sewerage bill, which roughly equals 50 cents less per week.

The 2022–23 price changes are consistent with the Commission’s direction for the 2018–23 period, which allowed for a gradual increase of the water supply charge paired with a real decrease of Tier 1 and 2 water usage prices from 2017–18 levels.

We understand some customers may need extra help paying their bills from time to time. We have a range of flexible payment options available to support people seeking temporary or longer-term financial assistance that can be tailored to suit individual needs. Our Staying Connected program is available to assist our residential and small business customers needing more personalised support with affordable payment plans.

We will continue to deliver our services in a sustainable and efficient way, supporting the ACT community and providing our customers with value for their money. For example, throughout 2022–23, Icon Water will finalise the O’Connor Reservoir upgrade, which will allow us to keep supplying high-quality drinking water to North Canberrans. We will also continue upgrading the capacity of the Belconnen Trunk Sewer main and will be cleaning around 300 km of wastewater pipes across the ACT.

Icon Water is finalising its 2023–28 Price Proposal, which will set our plan for the 2023–28 regulatory period, including our customer service levels, upcoming expenditure and investments, and proposed customer prices. The Commission will assess our Price Proposal and will later publish a determination on the prices Icon Water can charge for water and sewerage services over the 2023–28 regulatory period.
