Sustainability and environment
As Canberra’s supplier of essential water and wastewater services, we play a critical role in the protection of public health and the environment within our community. Our activities are subject to extensive environmental, health, technical, price, waste and safety regulation, including environmental licenses and development conditions of approval.
We are a territory-owned corporation, which means we are obligated to integrate environmental, social and economic considerations into our activities through:
- the precautionary principle, accounting for the possibility of harm with incomplete information;
- the inter-generational equity principle, protecting the environment for future generations;
- conservation of biological diversity and ecological integrity;
- improved valuation and pricing of environmental resources.
We take every step to fulfil this responsibility (see our Sustainability and Environment Policy to learn more). This commitment is demonstrated through our Business Strategy, focusing on sustaining and enhancing quality of life. We also track and report our sustainability performance in our annual reports.
