ACT 2023–2024 water and sewerage pricing

Published date

Earlier this year, the Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission (the independent regulator) decided how water and sewerage prices for the ACT will be calculated for the next five years.

From 1 July 2023, water and wastewater prices will be adjusted to reflect the independent regulator’s decision.

For a typical household using 200 kilolitres of water per year, the changes will result in a 6.1% increase to their combined water and wastewater bill, equivalent to $1.38 per week.

The price changes are consistent with the Commission’s direction for the 2023–28 period, which identified inflation and critical infrastructure investments as the primary drivers for increased tariffs. These investments include major upgrades to Canberra’s primary wastewater treatment plant at Lower Molonglo.

We understand some customers may need extra help paying their bills from time to time. We have a range of flexible payment options available to support people seeking temporary or longer-term financial assistance that can be tailored to suit individual needs.

Icon Water’s Staying Connected program is available to assist our residential and small business customers needing more personalised support with affordable payment plans. There are also Government assistance programs available to some customers.

Bills sent to residential and commercial customers from 1 July will contain a message advising them of the price changes.

We will continue to plan for the future and deliver our services in a sustainable and efficient way, supporting the ACT community and providing our customers with value for their money.
