Statement on media reports regarding PFAS

Icon Water maintains a precautionary approach, staying abreast of the science and has performed testing in its water supply catchments as early as 2016. We have been conducting routine annual sampling for PFAS since 2020 with all test results below the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. 

Since testing started, PFOS, (a type of PFAS) was detected twice in separate one-off instances that were not detected again in subsequent testing. No other types of PFAS were detected.

Canberra is in a fortunate position, with water supply coming from high in the catchment with low levels of industry. PFAS is an issue that Icon Water works with the ACT EPA, ACT Health and local industry as part of our water quality management.
