How big are our pipes?
When it comes to your internal plumbing, the largest pipe you’re likely to find is only 100 millimetres (that’s 10 centimetres!) in diameter. All it takes is a quick glance at your ruler to realise that’s not a lot of room to manoeuvre!
It’s easy to see how something like a tampon, which is designed to expand, can very easily cause blockages. Especially when there’s other stuff getting stuck down there (like fats and grease!).
It’s only once you get to Canberra’s wastewater network that the pipes begin growing to sizes above 150 millimetres (15 centimetres).
