Supporting local research in water sustainability
Icon Water established a Perpetual Endowment Fund with the Australian National University in 2008. The original $1 million principal investment is preserved in perpetuity with the interest used over time to support water sustainability PhD scholarships and research projects aligned with strategic priorities of both ANU and Icon Water.
Examples of past water sustainability research projects include:
-
Dr Wolfram Buss of ANU was awarded funding from the Endowment to demonstrate the added value to biosolids-derived products by maximising phosphorus recovery from biosolids through the production of biochar and the use of chemical additives.
- Dr Steven Lade and PhD candidate Sreelakshmi Cherampattamana of ANU were awarded funding from the Endowment for a research project to improve understanding and incorporation of runoff non-recovery in source water models for improved water security.
For more information go to ANU’s website.
It should be noted that the Endowment Fund is ANU owned, and distributed under ANU delegation, and therefore cannot count as an industry cash contribution in external funding proposals.
