AWA ACT Water Leader's Dinner and Awards

On Thursday 13 September about 100 people from across the water industry attended the Australian Water Association’s ACT Water Leader’s Dinner and Awards.

As Canberra’s water utility, Icon Water was proud to be the major sponsor of the event. John Knox said “This is as a great opportunity to connect with our industry partners and celebrate the local talent, diversity and innovation in our sector.”

In his sponsors address, John Knox highlighted that “we can all make a positive difference to our region and the lives of our community by working together, building on each other’s energy for ideas and collaboration.”

Congratulations to our winners:

Alice Liao won the ACT Young Water Professional of the Year. Alice joined Icon Water since 2015 (following previous roles at water utilities) and works as a process engineer in both water and sewerage treatment. In accepting the award, Alice thanked her supervisors, fellow engineers, operators and planners for their collaborative and inclusive approach.  Alice’s technical ability is matched by her enthusiasm and passion for Icon Water and the water industry.

Icon Water was also recognised when our contractor Interflow won the Infrastructure Project Innovation Award for their project work for Icon Water to line the Molonglo Valley Interceptor Sewer.  This innovative project involved the structural renewal of our major sewer carrying two-thirds of Canberra’s wastewater, whilst the sewer remained in full service. The works have given the sewer at least 50 years of additional life.

These award winners will progress through to the National Australian Water Awards category, which will be presented at Ozwater’19 in Melbourne, 7-9 May 2019.
