Flushing Fixtures

Charges for flushing fixtures

We are responsible for the operation, and maintenance, of the water and sewerage network throughout the ACT. Each customer who uses these services contributes to the ongoing cost of maintaining this network by paying supply charges.

A ‘flushing fixture’ is anything that flushes, such as toilets and urinals. A lot of the waste in our sewers come from these fixtures. For this reason, Community Institutions, Commercial and Non-Residential customers are billed a standard sewer charge plus an additional charge for each flushing fixture in excess of two. The amount for each additional flushing fixture is dependent on the land category and associated pricing plan (Charge Class)

Still not sure what counts as a flushing fixture?

A flushing fixture includes anything with a flushing cistern or flush valve. These include but are not limited to:

  • Toilets/Closets
  • Urinals
  • Cleaners sinks
  • Slop hoppers
  • Sluice sinks
  • Morgue tables

Who is responsible for keeping track of flushing fixtures?

It is your responsibility to inform us of any change to the number of flushing fixtures on your property.

We are typically informed of the number of flushing fixtures when a property is being built. This data is used to update our billing system. Should there be changes to this fixture count you can let us know of any changes through the Flushing fixture count form
