Corin Dam

Corin Dam is the first dam on the Cotter River heading towards Canberra, located within Namadgi National Park.

It is an earth and rockfill embankment dam constructed in 1968 to act as a regulating supply for the smaller Bendora Dam, with an upgrade in 2016.

The pristine condition of the upper Cotter River catchment allows for a reliable flow of high quality water into Corin Dam.  Water can be taken from the reservoir by the intake tower from any of six different depths, depending on what the reservoir level is and where the quality of water is at its best.

Water stored in Corin Dam is released into the Cotter River and flows downstream to Bendora Dam where is it transferred to Mount Stromlo Water Treatment Plant via the Bendora Gravity Main.

Storage Capacity: 70,900 million litres fed from a 197 square kilometre catchment area. Corin Dam is approximately 2.5 times the volume of Lake Burley Griffin.

Top water level: 955.54m above sea level

Activities such as fishing, swimming and boating are prohibited to prevent contamination of the water that Canberrans consume every day.
