Burst water main on Kings Avenue

Published date

Icon Water is working to fix a burst water main on Kings Avenue, in Parkes. Traffic may be affected in the area during the day, with possible road closures. The burst may be causing water discolouration in Deakin, Forrest, Parkes, Barton, Narrabundah, Griffith and Kingston.

Repairs to the burst main are underway and are expected to take several hours due to the size and location of the main. Repairs to the road may also be required, and those repairs will take additional time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

No interruption to supply is currently expected in the areas, but we recommend that you frequently check our Twitter page for updates. It’s also likely that the burst main and subsequent changes in water flow may lead to temporary discoloured water throughout South Canberra. This is due to natural sediment in the pipes being stirred and this should clear with normal use within 24 hours of the works being completed.

We don’t recommend that you drink water that appears, tastes or smells objectionable. It’s also better not to use household appliances, such as your dishwasher or washing machine, due to possible staining or discolouration of clothes. However, if your water appears clear you can continue on with your normal water use.

Further updates will be available on our Twitter feed and the homepage of our website www.iconwater.com.au
